Manash Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University is one of the oldest educational institutions in the Republic of Kazakhstan with 83 years of its existence. It is popularly known as North Kazakhstan State University (NKSU). The University was formed by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan on June 2, 1994. It is located in the urban setting of the small city of Petropavlovsk. It is a non-profit higher education University that provides quality education in multiple streams. NKSU was given the status of state university by the Republic of Kazakhstan on January 31, 2001. The university was named after Academician Manash Kozybayev in the year 2003.

The University is licensed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is a medium sized coeducational institution. It offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees and doctorate degrees in several areas of study. There are four degree courses available at doctorate level. North Kazakhstan State University marked the beginning of the development of medical education and science in Kazakhstan and trained more than 25 thousand students in the field of higher medical education, successfully working in different countries. The university is known for providing quality and modern education to all the medical aspirants from different countries of the world.
