Nizhny Novgorod State Medical university is now known as Privolzhsky Research Medical University. It is located in the city of Nizhny Novgorod that is one of the largest regions of the European part of Russia. The medical course at Nizhny Novgorod University was opened in 1920 and it became an independent medical institute in 1930.The university got the status of State Medical University in 1994. The university was established as a Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education and is one of the oldest universities in Russia as it completed 100 years of inauguration.

Nizhny Novgorod State Medical university provides scientific research and educational work in the best traditions of Russia and the world. The process of education is influenced by modern principles and new trends of formation and medical development. PRMU (NNSMU) consists of eight faculties out of which one is faculty of general medicine. The University has been guiding students in English medium since 1998 inorder to attract international students. The University has over 800 global students from 38 countries.
